1. Wash the apples well and with a sharp knife slit the skin round the fruit.
2. Put a piece of greased paper over the rack or trivet and stand the apples on this.
3. Put in the water, fix the lid and bring gradually to pressure.

Minestrone soup
Soak the beans for 24 hours.
Put them into the pressure cooker with the water.
Put the lid on and bring steadily to pressure.
Lower the heat and cook for 25 minutes.

Scotch broth
Blanch the barley by pouring on boiling water, leasing it a minute or two then straining it.
Cut the meat into neat pieces.

Barbecued pork
Slice onions very thinly.
Fry in the fat until fairly soft, using large pan ir frying pan.
Add water, the thickly sliced tomatoes. Arrange chops on top and season well.
